Project Examples

Requirements

Student teams can complete a substantial consulting project for your organization over the placement period. We suggest providing a starting project, but as the placement goes on there may be other duties or projects the students are asked to complete as well. Providing a central project creates structure for the consulting opportunity, and gives the student teams (and company) a tangible goal for the semester.

Students in University at Albany's School of Business MBA program can complete projects for a range of business functions, including valuation, business development, strategy, operations, and marketing. Project examples may include, but are not limited to:

  • Strategy - Develop an implementation plan for entering a new market; develop a go-to-market strategy for new products or services; identify new funding and grant opportunities and write proposals.
  • Operations - Recommend process improvements or redesign processes; develop improvements to supply chain processes to be more responsive to changes in demand; introduce quality assurance into internal processes; redesign incentive structures to improve employee performance and engagement.
  • Marketing - Complete a full customer, competitor, market, and environmental analysis; complete a marketing strategy review; design a new marketing strategy (product, place, price, and promotion); conduct overhaul of branding or communication strategy.
  • Sales - Design a new/improved prospecting process for your sales team; design a new/improved pricing or service structure.
  • Business Development - Conduct a cost-benefit analysis of your existing customer base for development
  • Finance - Design new/improved valuation methods; conduct cost-benefit analyses; identify opportunities to streamline costs.
