About Our Students - Scientific Training for Tomorrow’s Physicians and Scientists

Our Bachelor of Science in Biology students at the University at Albany gain the scientific background needed to succeed in a wide variety of careers including the medical, dental, veterinary, optometry and podiatry fields.

The course sequence in biology, chemistry, physics and math provides them with a broad foundation to build upon specialized areas of knowledge. From studying plants, animals and microscopic creatures, they then branch out into biology courses tailored to their interests and career goals such as genetics, neurobiology and immunology.

Project Examples

Requirements

If any of your projects require the skills and expertise listed above, our students are available for 120 hours of placement to complete your intensive projects from August 24th to November 24th, 2020.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, student placements will only occur virtually.

Students can complete a substantial project for your organization over the placement period. We suggest providing a starting project, but as the placement goes on there may be other duties or projects the student is asked to complete as well. Providing a central project creates structure for the internship, and gives the student (and company) a tangible goal.

Desired projects

Students come from an array of exemplary concentrations and specialties, resulting in a fruitful opportunity for employers to present a plethora of projects. Here is a non-exhaustive list of skills and projects that our students can complete:

  • Scientific research
  • Biostatistics
  • Analyzing data
  • Conducting studies

Benefits to the employer

  • Employers help the university produce highly productive and potential future leaders by complementing and enhancing a student’s academic study through meaningful work experience.
  • Students are available for specific long-term projects or for a series of short-term tasks, depending on employer needs.
  • Students could be assessed by employers for their ability, professionalism, and aptitude to become a potential career employee.
  • Students have completed a minimum of two years of academic study, thereby obtaining a solid base of theory and technical skills.

Recruitment process

  • Please submit a project to this page describing your Virtual Internship opportunity, if you are able to provide a position.
  • Students will apply for Internship positions with employers whose projects are approved.
  • Virtual Internship positions are preferably paid, but we can be willing to accept unpaid so long as they are in compliance with Federal Labor Laws of the United States. It must be a minimum of 150 hours completed either full time or part time.
