Our firm is helping to plan activities for the inaugural Toronto Black Maternal Health Week. The goal of this event is to highlight Black women's pre, peri, and postnatal experiences, how health systems and organizations can better support them, and improve Black maternal health outcomes. We are leading the planning for Research Day on April 15, which will have panel discussions with researchers, practitioners, and community members and a poster exhibition. The event will facilitate knowledge exchange by sharing information on current research, provide opportunities for study collaborations and partnerships while educating the wider public on the barriers Black women experience and policy and systems changes needed.

We would like to collaborate with a student to support the planning and organizing for Research Day and also organize the evaluation of the event and week. This will allow us to collect data and gather feedback on the activities so we can make improvements.

This will involve several activities for the student, including:

  • Familiarizing themselves with issues impacting Black maternal health in Ontario and Canada.
  • Helping with the call for proposals for the poster exhibition.
  • Reviewing the research submissions received.
  • Organizing the event registrations
  • Creating the evaluation survey and interactive evaluation activities.
  • Summarizing evaluation results.
  • Supporting the literature review being conducted.

Bonus steps in the process would also include:

  • Working with researchers to draft a publication based on the results.
Deliverables

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • Understanding of our area of research and the purpose of our project.
  • Understanding of the importance of knowledge exchange activities as a key part of research.
  • Summarization of key findings.

Bonus steps would include:

  • Assisting in the writing of a publication

Final deliverables should include

  • A final report.
